Columbia Real Estate Association Officers 2019 - 2020
Federica Burelli is the co-President of the Real Estate Association and outgoing co-AVP of Trips. She graduated from Duke University in 2010, where she majored in Civil Engineering and obtained a Certificate in Architectural Engineering. Prior to starting Columbia Business School, she spent 8 years at Clark Construction Group. At Clark, Federica began her career working in field supervision and project management on ground-up multi-family residential projects. She then transitioned into Preconstruction Services, where she worked in budgeting, estimating and purchasing. Most recently, she was the Senior Project Manager on Midtown Center DC, a $231M core & shell office building that delivered under an accelerated schedule of 2.5 years. This summer, Federica is working at Boston Properties in their NYC Development team.
Jason Segal is the co-President of the Real Estate Association. Prior to joining Columbia Business School, Jason held various roles over a 6+ year tenure at the KRE Group, a full service real estate development and management company. Most recently he was the Director of Residential Leasing where he
led an in-house leasing team focused on the the branding, advertising, and pricing strategies for a portfolio of 9,000 apartments. Jason graduated with a BBA from The University of Wisconsin-Madison where he focused on business and earned a certificate in environment and social responsibility.
Co-VP of Alumni & Mentorship
Adam Kietz is a member of the Columbia Business School Class of 2020 focusing on Real Estate Finance and is Co-VP of Alumni and Mentorship for the Real Estate Association. Over the summer in 2019, Adam worked with Related Fund Management in New York City. Prior to CBS, Adam was part of a financial advisory group at J.P. Morgan Securities which oversaw $1.5 billion in assets for individual and institutional clients. Adam had close to 7 years of experience in asset management at J.P. Morgan, is a CFA Charter holder, and holds an undergraduate BBA degree from the University of Michigan. He is originally from New York and currently lives in Chelsea in NYC.
Co-VP of Alumni & Mentorship
Michael Barkman is an MBA student in the Class of 2020 with a concentration in Real Estate. This past summer he interned in the Investments group of Welltower, an S&P 500 REIT focused on healthcare real estate including senior housing, post-acute care facilities and medical office buildings. Prior to CBS, he worked in the M&A Advisory Group at Mizuho Securities USA, advising on cross-border mergers and acquisitions, from 2014 to 2018. Michael graduated from the University of Denver in 2014 with a BS in Business and Economics. He is also a dedicated midfielder for the CBS Football Club.
Co-VP of Careers
Daniel Gutierrez was an Associate in NYC at Blackstone, an alternative asset management firm specializing in the management of private equity funds, real estate funds, hedge fund solutions, and credit-focused funds, prior to Columbia Business School. Most recently, Daniel was on Blackstone’s Corporate Development Team identifying and evaluating platform M&A transactions and other firmwide strategic initiatives. Daniel is from Rockville, MD and graduated from Villanova University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Finance and minors in Economics and Management Information Systems. He spent the summer working at at Olayan America on their Real Estate investments team.
Co-VP of Careers
Musashi Liu worked as a Senior Associate focusing on capital markets/M&A/strategy for Mill Creek Residential Trust, a vertically integrated real estate developer/investment manager/operator ranked as the 2nd largest US apartment developer. Most recently, he spearheaded Mill Creek’s $650MM M&A transaction with the Arizona State Retirement system and, in the past, has contributed to the successful completion of more than $1 billion of US, Asian, and Middle Eastern capital investments in multifamily, retail, office, and land development. He has prior experience in real estate investment banking and global foreign exchange at Bank of America Merrill Lynch and BlueGate Partners.
Musashi graduated from Georgetown University, Bachelor of Arts in Chinese/Business Administration [Sidwell Friends High School], studied abroad at Minzu University in Beijing becoming fluent in Mandarin, and was a student-athlete on the Georgetown University Men's Rugby Team. He is an active member of the Urban Land Institute, the Georgetown Real Estate Finance Initiative, The Real Estate Council, and a core volunteer for Habitat for Humanity.

Claire Kao is originally from Los Angeles and graduated from Columbia Engineering with a B.S. in Civil Engineering in 2014. Prior to business school, Claire was an Assistant Project Manager on 3 World Trade Center with AECOM Tishman. This summer, Claire will be at WeWork in a Strategy and Operations role. Outside of CBS, Claire is the chair of a junior board for a non-profit called the Crime Victims Treatment Center and on the advisory board of Film Forum. In addition to her role on the REA Board, she serves as the CBS Class of 2020 Senator, VP of External Relations with CBS Reflects, and VP of Allies for Cluster Q.

Leah Zulkoski is specializing in social impact real estate development and investment at Columbia Business School. After graduating from Bates College in 2015, she spent a number of years at Moody’s Investors Service where she assigned ratings to Commercial Mortgage Backed Securities with individual deal balances upwards of $6.8 billion. Immediately prior to starting business school, Leah was a founding member of the Vermont Innovation Commons- a social impact real estate development in Burlington, Vermont to serve as a fully-integrated hub of entrepreneurial activity and economic development for the entire state of Vermont.
VP of Communications & Technology
Kathleen Collins is a member of Columbia Business School Class of 2020. Prior to Columbia, Kathleen worked as a venture capital investor at Industry Ventures, a $3B multi-strategy fund based in San Francisco, CA. Kathleen comes from a family of real estate developers and has always held an interest in the space; she came to Columbia to focus on real estate acquisitions and development as well as the convergence of technology and real estate. Kathleen graduated from Dartmouth College in 2011 where she studied Geopolitics and captained the Dartmouth Women’s Lacrosse Team.

Maura Lewkowicz is from Germany and received a BA in International Economics, Management and Finance from Università Bocconi in Milan. Maura has worked in real estate investment and development, specializing in hotel properties, in Europe and the Americas. She also received a Hotel Investment and Management and an Architectural Design certificate from Cornell, as well and she is an active member of the USGBC and AHLA. At CBS she also holds a VP role in the Hospitality and Travel Association.

Sophie Nitkin is a member of the Columbia Business School’s Class of 2020. Most recently, Sophie worked as Development Analyst at CIM Group, where she managed both ground-up construction and adaptive reuse projects in Los Angeles. Prior to CIM, Sophie served as the Special Assistant to the Chairman at the NYC Department of City Planning. Sophie began her career at HR&A Advisors, structuring complex urban real estate projects and economic development programs across the United States. Sophie graduated from Wellesley College with a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture.
VP of EMBA
Hande Oney is Strategy Consultant at Plastarc Inc. with over 6 year of family business experience and education in architecture, Hande's focus is real estate innovation and workplace strategy. After completing her architecture degree at Pratt Institute she worked at Rafael Vinoly Architects on high-end residential projects in both New York and Miami, including 432 Park Avenue, One River Point and 125 Greenwich Street projects. Later, she joined her my family architecture company based in Istanbul, Turkey. She focused on restructuring her family business, development and innovation initiatives and new market strategies. She hopes to pivot her career in innovation in workplace strategy. Hande is based in New York and in the EMBA Americas 2020 program.
VP of J-Term
Zachary Fogelson is a member of Columbia Business School Class of 2020. Prior to Columbia, Zachary worked as a quantitative investor at Citadel LLC, a $30B multi-strategy fund based in Chicago, IL. Zachary comes from a family of real estate developers and has always held an interest in the space; he came to Columbia to focus on real estate investment and development as well as public REIT investing. Zachary graduated from Harvard College in 2015 where he studied Computer Science and was an avid competitor in intramural sports.
VP of International
Sarah Wagner is a member of Columbia Business School Class of 2020. Prior to Business School, Sarah was a Senior Associate at the New York City Economic Development (NYCEDC) focusing real estate public-private partnerships in New York City. Prior to this, she spent two years at Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield, the premier global shopping center developer, working on retail and office projects in France and in Germany. She graduated in 2014 from HEC Paris with a combined Bachelor and Master in Management.
VP of Case Competition
Stephen Denis is a member of Columbia Business School’s Class of 2020. Most recently, Stephen was the VP of Finance at Pacific Traverse Energy, an infrastructure development and investment firm developing large-scale energy terminal assets in Canada. Prior to Pacific Traverse, Stephen was a Vice President at Strata Energy Investments, a middle market private equity firm focused on equity investments in the oil and gas infrastructure space. Stephen started his career in M&A investment banking at a subsidiary of Perella Weinberg Partners and attended Tulane University in New Orleans, where he double majored in Finance and Legal Studies in Business. Having long been interested in real estate, Stephen hopes to pivot to a private equity or development role in the industry after completing his MBA.
VP of Education
Jeremy Schwartz is a first-year MBA student at Columbia Business School. He graduated with a BS in Applied Mathematics & Statistics from Johns Hopkins University where he was also a member of the Men’s Tennis team. Prior to CBS, Jeremy was an Associate at Boathouse Capital, a middle market private equity firm that makes both debt and equity investments. Prior to this position, he was an Investment Banking Analyst at Stifel Nicolaus where he worked on M&A and capital markets transactions for companies in the Transportation and Logistics sector.
VP of Finance
Ricardo Leite is the VP of Finance of the Real Estate Association and a member of Columbia Business School’s Class of 2020. Ricardo worked with KKR’s real estate group over the summer and as an Assistant Vice President at GIC, Singapore’ sovereign wealth fund, prior to Columbia Business School. At GIC, Ricardo led the execution of cross-border investments in core, value-add and development opportunities in the office, industrial and retail sectors. He also worked at Credit Suisse’s investment banking department, covering M&A transactions in energy and real estate. Ricardo graduated from Universidade de São Paulo and is a Columbia Fellow at Columbia Business School.
